Golden Ellipse
Golden Ellipse
Patek Philippe’s Golden Ellipse was a daring departure from conventional watch forms when it originally debuted in 1968. However, this innovative watch had an underlying harmony that was highly aesthetically pleasing rather than succumbing to trends. An ellipse lies between a circle and a rectangle. Its surface is covered with a blue gold dial with floating gold hands and hour markers.
This watch collection design was influenced by the ancient Greek mathematicians’ discovery of the “golden section” idea. This “divine” proportion, symbolized by the ratio 1 / 1.6181, has inspired some of history’s greatest works of art and architecture.
